    Generalised Taft algebras and pairs in involution

    Pairs in involution appear within many topics of Hopf algebra theory reaching from Hopf-cyclic cohomology to knot theory and representation theory. In this talk we investigate different perspectives on pairs in involution and answer the question whether all finite-dimensional Hopf algebras admit such pairs. The latter is achieved by considering a class of Hopf algebras which we refer to as `generalised Taft algebras’. For them pairs in involution correspond to solutions of a system of Diophantine equations. We classify all generalised Taft algebras without such pairs and investigate our findings under a Morita theoretic viewpoint.

    The Heisenberg calculus and cyclic cohomology

    Epstein and Melrose studied the Fredholm index problem for certain hypoelliptic operators on contact manifolds. They investigated the problem by placing it in the context of Hochschild homology. They made important progress, but their program has not reached a satisfactory resolution. We revisit this program by studying the index in the context of cyclic cohomology. This is joint work with Alexander Gorokhovsky.
